What’s the Difference Between Vision Insurance & Medical Insurance?

Many patients ask us, “Does my insurance cover this?” The answer depends on the type of plan you have and the reason for your visit.

  • Vision insurance covers routine services like eye exams, glasses, and contact lenses. It’s designed to help with annual checkups and updating your prescription.
  • Medical insurance is used when your visit involves a health-related concern. This might include dry eye disease, eye infections, diabetes-related eye issues, or eye pain.

For example, if you’re here for new glasses, vision insurance applies. But if you’re visiting for dry, irritated eyes or blurred vision, medical insurance may be billed for the visit instead.

Flexible Payment with CareCredit

If you don’t have insurance, or if your insurance doesn’t cover everything. CareCredit can make managing out-of-pocket costs easier. This flexible healthcare credit card allows you to split your payments over time, which can be helpful for:

  • Advanced dry eye treatments
  • Eyewear purchases
  • Contact lens fittings
  • Medical exams not covered by vision insurance

Our team is happy to help you apply for a CareCredit account or use your existing one at checkout. It’s just one more way we help make high-quality eye care accessible to every patient.
